About the role
Balfour Beatty Construction is seeking an Assistant Project Manager for our education/municipal team in Dallas, TX. This position is part of a larger team focused on K-12, higher education, and municipal projects in the DFW market.
Responsibilities
- Determines resources needed for each project, including people, tools, equipment, materials, and internal services.
- Collaborates with the Project Manager to decide how and when these needs will be met and by whom.
- Preconstruction Coordination:
- Prepares, reviews, and monitors information and reports related to all costs involved in assigned projects.
- Decides on the construction schedule and an organization and responsibilities matrix at the start of each project.
- Creates and manages project budgets.
- Prepares bid packages and subcontract scopes of work; sets up subcontractor pre-work meetings, keeps minutes, and follows up.
- Complies with requirements of owner contracts (e.g., bonds, fees, notifications, schedules, reporting, and costs).
- Project Scheduling:
- Defines responsibilities for processing submittals, taking ownership of more difficult trades when necessary.
- Confirms all required paperwork from subcontractors and suppliers is completed at appropriate times before and during the project.
- Establishes relationships and communication tools as needed with suppliers and other key people to verify materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and personnel are obtained and/or delivered when necessary.
- Maintains a safe and respectful working environment by implementing safety, EEO, risk management, training, and quality control programs.
- Communicates with all suppliers and subcontractors to ensure they understand performance standards related to predetermined schedules or plans and specifications. Coordinates with the Project Manager regarding appropriate actions if performance problems occur.
- Project Administration, Operations, Coordination and Close-out:
- Attends all mandatory periodic planning, progress, and close out meetings with project staff and other key people on project concerns, problems, and unexpected situations.
- Compares progress to schedule, compares actual versus estimated cost, checks compliance with plans and specifications, reviews any problems, and verifies the quality of work being performed meets contract specifications and Balfour Beatty Construction guidelines.
- Completes a time impact analysis for each change proposal for submittal to the owner; coordinates with the Project Manager and Scheduling Director.
- Manages the project closeout process to settle all financial obligations, demobilize all resources, and transition the project to the customer.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
- 4 years of experience working on projects of various sizes.
- Experience with project manager software (Procore, P6, etc.).
- Experience with cost projection, financial analysis, budget reviews, labor reports.
- Experience with JD Edwards or similar construction application(s).
Knowledge and Skills
- Prioritizes and delegates multiple responsibilities to others.
- Supervises and develops direct reports to assess and build talent.
- Demonstrates leadership skills with ability and willingness to face challenges, solve problems, motivate others, and sell new business.
- Demonstrates proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).
Preferred Experience
- K-12, higher education and/or municipal experience.
- Local candidate preferred, but not required.
- College education in Construction Management/Engineering.
