About the Role
The Level 1 Assistant Project Manager supports Project Managers by overseeing assigned project components, ensuring tasks are executed safely, with high quality, and at the lowest cost.
Responsibilities
- Project Planning:
- Collaborate with Preconstruction and Project Support groups to maximize profit opportunities through proactive planning.
- Participate in project kick-off meetings and work sessions with estimating and support groups.
- Review plans and specifications.
- Prepare Requests for Information (RFIs) as needed.
- Assist with schedule preparation.
- Evaluate vendor/subcontractor quotations for accuracy.
- Assist with preparation of submittals and initiation of safety programs.
- Project Management (Independent Activity):
- Manage assigned projects in accordance with Alterman’s procedures and policies.
- Maintain effective communication with Alterman personnel.
- Project Development:
- Maintain material files (purchase orders, memos, quotes, shop drawings, test reports, action item lists, field record drawings, etc.).
- Create a 3-Week Lookahead as needed.
- Review and process shop drawings.
- Assist with project close-out procedures, including:
- Addressing punch list items.
- Finalizing record documents.
- Completing final AHJ inspections.
- Updating project descriptions and Operation and Maintenance Manuals.
- Attend project close-out meetings and assist with preparing close-out documents.
- Project Management (Direct Supervision of Project Manager):
- Timely inform the Project Manager of significant problems and provide recommended solutions (25% of role).
- Assist with project startup procedures, including:
- Making projections and interpreting contracts.
- Providing input to proposed project teams.
- Entering and monitoring Action Item Lists in Procore Observation.
- Additional Duties:
- Attend 25-50-75-90-100% project review meetings and assist with documentation.
- Attend on-site project meetings.
- Prepare accurate job cost projections as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must meet one of the following:
- Completion of Inside Wireman Apprenticeship or equivalent, plus 2 years’ experience in a field supervisory position.
- Associate degree in Business Management, Construction Management, or Construction Engineering.
- Commitment to participating in Project Management training sessions and one-on-one training with an assigned Project Manager.
Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective reasoning and judgment skills.
- Proficiency with Primavera, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Suite, accounting software, estimating software, and other required systems.
- Ability to read and interpret contract documents, plans, specifications, and requirements.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and capitalize on project opportunities.
- Working knowledge of trade terms, materials, methods, codes, contract/specification language, and bidding methods.
- Knowledge of the National Electric Code, electrical engineering fundamentals, purchasing/buying processes, and accounting concepts.
Work Environment
- Office and job site environment with some travel required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to use hands/fingers to handle objects, tools, or controls; manual dexterity for computer data entry.
- Ability to talk, hear, sit frequently, and occasionally stand, walk, climb, balance, crouch, crawl, stoop, or kneel.
- Ability to safely operate a vehicle for travel to/from job sites.
- Ability to regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to safely maneuver in a construction environment.
- Adequate close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
