About the role
The Assistant Program Manager assists in therapeutic programming and reports directly to the Programs Manager. The role involves advocating for clients and staff, ensuring high-quality care, and managing staff.
Responsibilities
- Provides shift planning, coaching, and decision-making support for staff on duty, consistent with CARE principles.
- Affords assistance in interviews, selects, supervises, and completes performance evaluations for Youth Care Workers assigned to the cottage.
- Collaborates with Program Managers to address performance issues, including recommending disciplinary actions to the Director of Residential Services.
- Completes Medicaid documentation as required by the agency and oversees staff in completing Medicaid paperwork.
- Models and coaches a strong work ethic, focusing on quality care for children.
- Builds trust and relationships with staff, peers, and stakeholders.
- Ensures ongoing communication among youth care staff and other members of the residential team, including therapists, recreational, and administrative staff.
- Identifies staff development needs and recommends or requires on-going training for cottage staff.
- Contributes to treatment planning and coordinates the implementation of treatment plans for residents in the cottage.
- Consults with therapists regarding behavioral management problems, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
- Reviews incidents involving restraints or timeouts, identifying patterns and developing strategies to reduce such episodes.
- Assists with restraints if needed, adhering to best practices.
- Guarantees the completion of required records and reports, including client summaries, incident reports, workers compensation reports, and other administrative and treatment summaries.
- Requests training for staff if needed.
- Assumes on-call status as required.
- Performs other related tasks as directed by the Program Manager.
Requirements
- Possess and retain a valid Illinois driver’s license.
- Show strong organizational and time management skills.
- Show excellent interpersonal skills.
- Show excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Be able to direct services in a manner that appreciates the cultural background, heritage, and identity of the clients.
- Have a Bachelor’s Degree in the human service field with 2 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Complete CARE and TCI training upon hire and demonstrate ongoing application of these principles in job performance.
- Pass the written test annually and the physical test every six months (if applicable).
