Assistant Program Director

About the role

You will serve as a key leader within the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) program, working closely with the Program Director and serving as a secondary liaison with the Office of Refugee Resettlement. You will direct day-to-day program activities and help ensure the safety, security, and well-being of campus residents. You will provide leadership and direction to staff, establish priorities, and ensure program operations remain effective, efficient, and compliant with Federal, State, and local regulations and guidance.

Maintain current knowledge of ORR policies, procedures, and practices related to the operation of a Residential Shelter for Unaccompanied Children. Analyze program data and reports to identify trends and patterns, assess needs, and take appropriate action. This role requires strong leadership, sound judgment, emotional intelligence, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while supporting a trauma-informed environment for both residents and staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day program activities for the ORR program
• Ensure the safety, security, and well-being of campus residents
• Provide leadership and direction to staff, establishing priorities
• Maintain compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations
• Stay current with ORR policies, procedures, and best practices for Residential Shelters for Unaccompanied Children
• Analyze program data and reports to identify trends and assess needs
• Support a trauma-informed environment for residents and staff

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in psychology, social work, sociology, education, or other behavioral science
• At least five years of relevant progressive employment experience with a social services or childcare agency demonstrating leadership, managerial, and program development skills
• In-depth understanding of child welfare best practices, trauma-informed care systems, and experience working within homes and communities
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with excellent organizational abilities
• Excellent judgment and leadership capabilities
• Thorough knowledge of ORR policies, procedures, and practices regarding the operation of a Residential Shelter for Unaccompanied Children

Preferred Qualifications

• Clinical and crisis intervention experience
• Bilingual: English and Spanish
• Experience with family preservation, kinship care, or child welfare
