About the role

The Department of Theatre and Speech at The City College of New York (CCNY) seeks an Assistant Professor to join a dynamic and collaborative team. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Directing 1, Directing 2, and other courses; directing at least one mainstage production per year; producing the annual One Act Festival and Scarefest event; mentoring student directors; acting as a liaison between the department and the Leonard Davis Center for the Arts staff; and working with the Department Chair to create publicity and PR for Department events.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Directing 1 and Directing 2
  • Direct at least one mainstage production per year
  • Produce the annual One Act Festival and Scarefest event
  • Mentor student directors
  • Act as a liaison between the department and the Leonard Davis Center for the Arts staff
  • Work with Department Chair to create publicity and PR for Department events
  • Participate in departmental and college-wide committees and service
  • Share responsibility for student advising, peer evaluations, and departmental activities and events

Requirements

The Department of Theatre and Speech is located in Harlem and serves a diverse student body from 153 countries and 99 languages. The successful candidate must have a M.F.A. or Ph.D. in Theatre or a related field and two years of teaching experience at the university level or equivalent. Strong organizational and administrative skills, conversance in historical theatre practices and contemporary professional practices, and specialty in accessible theatre practices for neuro-diverse students or trauma conscious practices are preferred qualifications.

Qualifications

  • M.F.A. or Ph.D. in Theatre or a related field
  • Two years of teaching experience at the university level or equivalent
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills

  • Specialty in accessible theatre practices for neuro-diverse students or trauma conscious practices (preferred)

Pay

Salary Range: $76,937 - $94,909
