Assistant Professor – Substance Use - Psychology (Tenure-Track)
About the role
The Department of Psychology at the City College of New York (CCNY) invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track faculty position in substance use at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2027. The department is a vibrant, diverse unit in Harlem serving over 2,000 undergraduate majors, offering master’s programs in General Psychology and Mental Health Counseling, and an APA‑accredited doctoral program in Clinical Psychology. Over 200 students participate in the Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) program, which provides the educational and practicum hours required for New York State OASAS certification. Faculty also contribute to Ph.D. programs in Neuroscience and Psychology at the CUNY Graduate Center and the M.S. program in Cognitive Neuroscience. The position seeks a scientist investigating basic or translational mechanisms of substance use and/or its treatment, with interests that may include neuroimaging, therapeutics, technology‑based interventions, translational neuroscience, or implementation science. The hire will build on existing strengths in clinical and translational substance‑use research. CCNY maintains strong affiliations with the Center for Discovery and Innovation (CDI), the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC) (including a 3T MRI scanner), the Grove School of Engineering, the CUNY School of Medicine, and the U54 partnership with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, plus additional intramural programs. Successful candidates are expected to maintain an active research program, obtain external grant support, publish in top‑tier journals, be committed to undergraduate and graduate education, and provide mentoring to students.
