Assistant Professor - Sociology of Gender and Sexuality

FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT "At Baruch College we believe that student success is everyone’s responsibility” The Sociology and Anthropology Department at Baruch College, a senior college of the City University of New York located in the heart of mid-town Manhattan, invites applications for a sociologist with a specialization in gender and sexuality for a full-time assistant professor position to begin August 28, 2027. The department, which is housed in the college's Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, has a multidisciplinary faculty and supports degrees in Sociology, Anthropology, Religion, and New York City Studies. The school serves all Baruch students in its introductory courses, many minors in its upper-level courses, and an increasing number of majors. Baruch College is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to its mission of educating one of the most diverse student bodies in the United States. The successful candidate will have a strong scholarly research agenda and demonstrate preparation to teach in department courses that include introduction to sociology, upper-level courses in gender and sexuality studies, and other courses as needed in the department’s curriculum. Evidence of ability to engage students in experiential, community-oriented learning and in New York City-based learning is desired. Qualifications Doctoral degree in sociology with specialization in gender and/or sexuality.Demonstrated successful experience teaching courses in sociology at the college level. Candidates Will Be Expected To Demonstrate Excellence in scholarship, including publication (or a publication trajectory) in respected outletsTeaching excellence, including course and assignment design, and ability to teach a diverse student body using a variety of modalitiesAbility to engage students in experiential learning and community-based learningEngagement in service to the university and broader discipline of sociology Compensation $86,741- $102,017; commensurate with education and experience CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
