Assistant Professor - Sociology of Gender and Sexuality

Baruch College, a senior college of the City University of New York located in mid-town Manhattan, invites applications for a full-time assistant professor position in sociology with a specialization in gender and sexuality, beginning August 28, 2027. The Sociology and Anthropology Department supports degrees in Sociology, Anthropology, Religion, and New York City Studies, and serves a diverse student body through introductory and upper-level courses. Baruch College is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to its mission of educating one of the most diverse student populations in the United States.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a strong scholarly research agenda and demonstrate preparation to teach introduction to sociology, upper-level courses in gender and sexuality studies, and other courses as needed in the department’s curriculum. Evidence of ability to engage students in experiential, community-oriented learning and New York City-based learning is desired.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in sociology with specialization in gender and/or sexuality.
• Demonstrated successful experience teaching courses in sociology at the college level.

• Excellence in scholarship, including publication (or a publication trajectory) in respected outlets.
• Teaching excellence, including course and assignment design, and ability to teach a diverse student body using a variety of modalities.
• Ability to engage students in experiential learning and community-based learning.
• Engagement in service to the university and broader discipline of sociology.

Pay

$86,741–$102,017; commensurate with education and experience. CUNY is implementing salary schedule increases, with eligible employees receiving a 3.5% adjustment effective September 1, 2026, in accordance with the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
