Assistant Professor, School of Social Work

Bridgewater State University’s School of Social Work invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning September 2027. The School houses CSWE-accredited BSW and MSW programs with approximately 550 students and is ranked 83rd nationally by U.S. News & World Report.

The School of Social Work is part of a cohesive campus community that supports faculty advancement in teaching, scholarship, and a clear path to tenure. Funding for scholarship is available through the Center for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship and the Office of Teaching and Learning. Faculty contribute to teaching, advising, curriculum development, and university-wide committees, with opportunities for leadership within the School.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses, which may include:
  • Research methods
  • Human behavior and the social environment
  • Dynamics of diversity and oppression
  • Practice with individuals, families, groups, or communities
  • Practicum seminar
• Teach evening and weekend courses to accommodate non-traditional students.
• Advise students and participate in curriculum/program development and assessment.
• Serve on school, college, and university-wide committees.
• Contribute to leadership within the School as opportunities arise.
• Demonstrate innovation in teaching, including use of simulation, online, hybrid, and Hyflex delivery models.

Requirements

• Earned doctorate in Social Work or a closely related field by September 1, 2027.
• Master of Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program.
• At least two years of post-MSW practice experience.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, accessibility, social justice, and community engagement through research, practice, or teaching.
• Strong commitment to excellence in teaching, advising, and working with a diverse student body.
• Ability to work collaboratively and use technology effectively in teaching and learning.
• Evidence of scholarly activity and commitment to public higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching field education seminars, particularly with current or recent practice experience.
• Teaching, research, or advising informed by equity-minded practices and a social justice lens.

Pay

A reasonable starting salary range for a new faculty member appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor is $75,000 to $85,000, commensurate with experience.
