Assistant Professor of the Practice - Mechanical Engineering

About the role

The professor of practice position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering is a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty appointment with the primary responsibility of delivering high-quality instruction and fostering student success in the mechanical engineering program.

Responsibilities

• Engage in continuous professional development.
• Develop and deliver undergraduate and potentially graduate-level courses in a range of mechanical engineering topics, such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, dynamics and solid mechanics.
• Prepare course materials, including syllabi, lectures, homework assignments, and handouts.
• Plan and conduct laboratory sessions and supervise student projects, including capstone projects.
• Utilize and promote various teaching methods and technologies, including e-learning platforms and computational software.
• Administer and grade exams, assignments, and other student work to assess progress and ensure alignment with accreditation standards (e.g., ABET).
• Hold regular office hours to provide academic support, advice, and career guidance to students.
• Mentor students who are completing projects or require assistance with course content.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
• 5 years of industrial experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Prior teaching experience at the university level.
