About the role

Fort Valley State University (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for a 12-month Assistant Professor of Poultry Science/Poultry Production. The successful candidate will develop a robust independent research program in poultry science and poultry production, collaborate with poultry producers and Cooperative Extension agents, and contribute to teaching and service. FVSU, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, serves over 2,800 students and is located in Fort Valley, Peach County, with a 1,365-acre campus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, prepare, and supervise student laboratory and experiential learning activities.
  • Develop course objectives, assignments, and effective methods for assessing student learning outcomes.
  • Develop and sustain a robust competitive research program in poultry science/poultry production.
  • Train and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with poultry industry partners and institutions within the University System of Georgia.
  • Secure extramural funding through competitive grants and collaborative partnerships.
  • Provide service to professional organizations, the college, university, and broader community.
  • Collaborate with Cooperative Extension service to support poultry producers in Middle Georgia.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Poultry Science/Animal Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in poultry production systems.
  • Knowledge of emerging research priorities relevant to Georgia agriculture and the poultry industry.
  • Evidence of innovative instructional pedagogy including familiarity with AI-assisted education and research technologies.
  • Ability to create inclusive, effective learning environments that support student success.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively in teaching, research, and extension settings.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated potential to secure external research funding.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A working understanding of poultry management.
  • Productive interaction with partners in allied poultry industries.
  • Post-doctoral or other experiences beyond the Ph.D.
