Assistant Professor of Poultry/Avian Physiologist

About the Department

The Department of Poultry Science at the University of Georgia has exceptional research and live-bird facilities, including a hatchery, feed mill, and pilot-scale poultry processing facility. Opportunities for collaboration exist within the department and across the university with units such as Ecology, Engineering, Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences, Poultry Health and Diagnostics, as well as local USDA scientists.

About the Role

This is a nine-month, tenure-track academic-year position with a 70% research, 25% teaching, and 5% service appointment. The successful candidate will establish innovative, nationally recognized research and teaching programs that complement existing disciplines and faculty within the department.

Responsibilities

• Establish innovative, nationally recognized research and teaching programs in poultry/avian science. Potential research foci include, but are not limited to:
  • Reproductive physiology
  • Assessment of and improvement to avian fertility
  • Stress physiology
  • Neurophysiology
  • Comparative physiology between poultry and other avian species
  • Embryology
• Obtain extramural funding to advance poultry/avian science research, education, and sector innovation.
• Collaborate with other scientists and industry partners, demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Lecture in established Poultry Science courses, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and support student recruitment.

Requirements

• Ph.D. with a background in poultry/avian science.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated record of collaborative research and teaching.
• Extramural grant success and program development contributions integrating applied science.
• Experience in student mentorship.
