Assistant Professor of Nursing
Position Summary
The Department of Nursing at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position beginning Fall 2026. This position has a primary teaching focus in Health Assessment, Evidence-Based Practice, and Foundations, and considers candidates with diverse clinical backgrounds. Additional teaching responsibilities in other areas may be assigned based on departmental needs and may include courses such as Senior Practicum, Ethics, Leadership, or other clinical courses aligned with the candidate’s area of expertise. The successful candidate will support the Department of Nursing's mission by contributing to high-quality teaching, student engagement, and curriculum development. This role includes teaching 24 credit hours per academic year, which may include classroom, clinical, laboratory, hybrid, and online formats. Faculty are also expected to engage in scholarly activities and provide service to the department, university, and broader community.
Responsibilities
Teaching 24 credits of upper-division undergraduate nursing courses. This includes:
Planning and delivering theoretical instruction and clinical experiences
Using a variety of instructional modalities, including in-person, online, and hybrid formats
Designing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum
Conducting student assessments and evaluating academic achievement
Participating in curriculum and policy development and evaluation
Orienting, mentoring, and monitoring clinical faculty and preceptors
Providing academic advising and mentorship to students to include:
Supporting student retention and success
Promoting inclusivity and responding to the needs of a diverse student population
Participating in department, college, university, and community service, that includes serving on committees at the department, college, and university levels.
Engaging in scholarly activity and professional development per the tenure track process.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in nursing from a nationally accredited nursing education program
Valid unencumbered RN license to practice in Colorado or ability to obtain by hiring date in August 2026
A minimum of two (2) years of full-time (or equivalent) clinical experience in professional nursing
Documented one year experience in the area of instruction
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate in nursing or a related field
Experience teaching at the college or university level
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse urban student population
Recent practice in community and population health nursing
Salary
The salary range for this faculty position is $82,000 - $89,000 at Assistant Professor rank. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, discipline, specialty, and training.
