Assistant Professor of Instruction - SON Undergraduate Studies

About the Role

The University of Texas Medical Branch School of Nursing at Galveston invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position in the Undergraduate program. Specialty areas include medical/surgical, community and population health, adult & family health, and acute & critical care. The academic rank is Assistant Professor of Instruction, commensurate with degree and experience. Preferred candidates will have teaching experience at the university level, clinical experience in their specialty area, and a defined program of scholarship.

Founded in 1890, the School of Nursing was the first nursing program in the Southwest and one of the first schools in the U.S. to be affiliated with a university in 1896. As part of UTMB, the school offers academic programs at the baccalaureate (traditional and RN-BSN), master’s (Family, Adult/Geriatric, Acute Care, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Leadership, Nurse Educator), and doctoral levels (DNP and PhD in collaboration with the Graduate School). UTMB provides an interprofessional environment for teaching, practice, and research across the Schools of Nursing, Medicine, Health Professions Sciences, and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. The School of Nursing features a state-of-the-art laboratory for bio-behavioral research, a Community Space for Health and Wellbeing, the Research Innovation and Scientific Excellence center, and other faculty resources. UTMB is home to hospitals and emergency departments on four campuses, a network of primary and specialty care clinics, the 160,000 square-foot Health Education Center for simulation and interprofessional education, and the Galveston National Lab. Responsibilities

• Effectively use innovative, state-of-the-art teaching methodologies and learning activities to promote excellence in classroom and online instruction.
• Participate in course design, development, implementation, and evaluation to provide appropriate learning experiences for students.
• Maintain academic excellence in education, practice, and/or research through participation in continuing education programs.
• Serve as an academic advisor to students.
• Demonstrate emerging or established leadership within a defined area of nursing practice.
• Exhibit leadership in clinical settings to increase collaboration with nursing colleagues and other disciplines.
• Disseminate scholarly work in peer-reviewed publications and present at state, national, and international meetings.
• Direct and engage in scholarship that contributes to the advancement of nursing knowledge and nursing science.
• Actively engage in School of Nursing and university committees.
• Participate actively in local, state, national, and international professional organizations.

Requirements

• Licensed or eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Texas.

Qualifications

• An earned doctoral degree in nursing or a related field (preferred).
