About the role

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Assistant Professor of Finance in the Lee Business School. This position requires conducting significant research leading to high-quality refereed publications and performing service activities for the department, school, university, and profession. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate-level finance courses, with potential involvement in executive education and professional certificate programs.

About the college

As one of the largest schools at UNLV, the Lee Business School serves approximately 3,500 undergraduate students, 500 graduate students, and over 140 faculty and staff. The school offers 10 undergraduate majors, 12 minors, and seven graduate degree programs, including a Masters in Quantitative Finance. The MBA program has ranked in the top 100 part-time MBA programs for the past five years according to U.S. News and World Report. A Ph.D. program is scheduled to launch in Fall 2027.

The Lee Business School holds international dual accreditation in business and accounting by AACSB International and is home to four centers connecting faculty and students with business and industry: Troesh Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER), Lied Center for Real Estate, and Kerestesi Center for Insurance and Risk Management.

About the department

The Department of Finance is a vibrant and rapidly growing department, recently receiving a significant endowment to establish the Kerestesi Center for Insurance and Risk Management. The department offers a comprehensive curriculum, including Gen-Ed level financial literacy courses, two undergraduate majors in Finance and Insurance & Risk Management, a concentration in Banking, and the Master of Science in Quantitative Finance. A Ph.D. program is expected to launch soon.

Since 2022, enrollment in finance courses has nearly tripled. The department oversees two student-managed investment funds, providing experiential learning opportunities. Faculty are highly productive scholars, with publications in top journals such as JF, JFE, RFS, AER, JPE, MS, TAR, JFQA, FM, JCF, and JBF. Research resources include WRDS, CRSP, Compustat, ISS (RiskMetrics), ExecuComp, BoardEx, and FactSet, complemented by an active research seminar series.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Finance (or a closely related field) from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
  • Demonstrated strong potential for excellence in research and teaching, evidenced by a pipeline of high-quality working papers, publications in reputable journals, and effective teaching evaluations.
  • Promise of developing a sustained record of impactful scholarship and teaching effectiveness at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
