Assistant Professor of Finance
About the role
The Department of Economics (Business Program) at St. Olaf College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Finance at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2027.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership in developing and growing the finance curriculum and related co-curricular opportunities within the business program.
- Teach undergraduate courses in corporate finance, investments, and additional finance electives aligned with their expertise (e.g., asset pricing, financial markets and institutions, risk management, fintech, or ESG finance).
- Contribute to general business education by supporting courses such as introductory business, strategic management, business analytics, or entrepreneurship, depending on expertise and departmental needs.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to high-quality, inclusive undergraduate teaching and to mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
- Engage in ongoing scholarly research or practice-focused work in finance or related fields.
- Advise and supervise student projects that use quantitative methods to study issues in finance and business.
- Participate actively in departmental and college service, including advising, curriculum development, and collaborative program initiatives.
Qualifications
- Candidates with a PhD/DBA (or ABD with expected completion by June 2027) will be considered as finance scholars, while candidates with an MBA, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or other relevant master’s degree and substantial senior-level industry experience will be considered as scholar-practitioners or practice-focused faculty for the same tenure-track line.
Benefits
Salary: $88,200 - $93,000

- Teaching Statement: Please provide a 1-2 page Teaching Statement that describes how your teaching philosophy and experience support high-quality, inclusive undergraduate learning in finance and business, with specific examples of course design, use of experiential or applied learning (e.g., projects, cases, data work), mentoring of diverse students, and contributions to curriculum or program development.
- Professional Statement: Please provide either a Statement of research and interests: Summarize your current and planned research agenda, its contributions to finance and related fields, and how it connects to undergraduate teaching, student collaboration, and the resources and mission of a liberal arts college. OR Statement of professional practice and applied scholarship: Describe your senior-level experience in finance or related fields, how you have translated that practice into teaching, curriculum, or student mentoring, and how you plan to sustain a practice-focused or applied scholarly agenda that benefits undergraduate learners in a liberal arts setting.
