About the role
Regent University’s School of Communication and the Arts invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Film and Media Arts. This faculty member will teach across the film curriculum, with a special focus on screenwriting and fiction film production. The successful candidate will hold an MFA in film production or a closely related filmmaking discipline by the start date and maintain an active and ongoing creative practice. That practice must show an established or emerging record of creative scholarship peer-reviewed through festivals and other juried or curated forums.
Responsibilities
- Teach graduate and undergraduate-level courses in screenwriting and fiction film production
- Demonstrate facility with online instructional technology and teach effectively in both online and residential formats
- Direct capstone and thesis projects
- Engage in professional mentoring of students
Requirements
- MFA in film production or a closely related filmmaking discipline by the start date
- Established or emerging record of creative scholarship peer-reviewed through festivals and other juried or curated forums
- Strengths in fiction filmmaking, including screenwriting
- Craft specialization in one or more of the following: sound design, producing, or post-production
- Dedication to Christ-centered teaching and learning
- Willingness to embrace the School and University Identity and Mission statements and subscribe to a statement of Christian faith
Preferred qualifications
- Conversance in one or more contemporary areas of practice:
- Writing for episodic and streaming platforms and the contemporary writers’ room
- Independent and micro-budget feature development
- Craft implications of generative AI and virtual production for how stories are written and made
Pay
The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $80,000 annually. Rank and salary within the range are commensurate with academic experience, a record of creative work adjudicated in juried, curated, or professionally selective forums, and demonstrated capacity to teach and serve across the curriculum.
