Summary of Job Duties

The College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, invites nominations and applications for an Assistant Professor of Exercise Science in the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation. The Assistant Professor of Exercise Science is a 9-month, tenure-track, full-time faculty position. The successful candidate will complement or add to existing strengths within the Exercise Science Program and the College of Education and Health Professions. We are seeking candidates who demonstrate both synergy with existing teaching strengths and a commitment to promoting a culture of research excellence. This is an in-person position; on-campus presence is an essential function of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Establishing a research agenda capable of securing external funding
  • Publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at professional conferences
  • Teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Exercise Science
  • Supervising theses, dissertations, and honors projects
  • Mentoring and advising both undergraduate and graduate students
  • Providing service to the department, college, university, community, and profession
  • Extensive in-person engagement in activities such as office hours, student advising, collaborative work, and departmental, college, and university committee meetings

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in Exercise Science or related field conferred by the start of employment
  • An established or emerging research agenda with clear trajectory toward external funding. The area of research inquiry is open, but focal areas include: metabolic health, cardiac physiology, respiratory physiology, molecular signaling, female-specific physiology, or multi-omics
  • Record of refereed peer-reviewed publications and presentations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of interdisciplinary research bridging exercise science, health, and education
  • Postdoctoral experience
  • Strong potential for, or history of securing external funding
  • Evidence of effective teaching and student mentorship

Additional Information

This position is a Designated Research Position and is regulated by the Arkansas Research Education Protection Act of 2025.
