Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology - Clinical (PsyD Program)

About the role

The California Lutheran University Graduate School of Psychology (GSoP) invites applications for a full-time, Assistant Professor tenure-track position in our APA-accredited PsyD Program in Clinical Psychology beginning in Fall 2027. The PsyD Program is a secular program that values science and social justice and directly affirms sexual and gender minority inclusivity. Under the direction of the Dean and Program Director, the Assistant Professor is responsible for providing academic instruction to students for the assigned graduate courses, serving as an academic advisor, contributing to department and university activities, serving on faculty or university committees, engaging in scholarly activities, and/or creative endeavors. The successful applicant will demonstrate outstanding commitment to doctoral teaching and dissertation research mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic instruction to students through lecture; assess and develop student communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments and activities.
• Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services, programs, resources, and other professionals as appropriate.
• Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide feedback in a timely manner to student inquiries in class, online, or during established office hours.
• Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes to maximize student learning in alignment with program and university mission/goals; implement the student performance objectives as listed on the official course outline of record.
• Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student academic progress, and student learning outcomes.
• Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks, manuals, software, and tools in collaboration, as appropriate, with other faculty; order instructional materials according to campus bookstore procedure to ensure timely delivery.
• Maintain an active research program that involves graduate research assistants and collaborators.
• Provide a course syllabus to students in each class within the first week of the class, as outlined in the faculty handbook.
• Adhere to the responsibilities related to teaching, advising, service, and scholarly, professional, and creative activities, as outlined in the faculty handbook.
• Attend and participate on committees and in the department, division, campus, and University meetings.
• Evening and weekend hours may be required.

Qualifications

• A PhD or PsyD degree in Health Service Psychology (Clinical, Counseling, or Combined) from a regionally accredited institution at the time of appointment (ABD applications are accepted).
• Preference will be given to applicants from APA-accredited doctoral programs in clinical or counseling psychology.
• Licensed or license-eligible to practice as a psychologist in California within three years of employment.
