About the role

The Department of Business Administration in the Williams School of Commerce, Economics & Politics at Washington and Lee University invites applications for a tenure track position as assistant professor in strategy. The appointment will begin July 1, 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and develop courses in organizational-level strategy that support the Business Administration major.
  • Examine how organizations create, adapt, and sustain value in dynamic business environments.
  • Help students understand how firms formulate, evaluate, and implement strategy while responding to technological change, evolving competitive conditions, organizational complexity, stakeholder expectations, and increasing uncertainty.
  • Develop innovative courses that complement existing departmental strengths while expanding opportunities for students.
  • Contribute to the development of the curriculum in areas of corporate strategy, technology strategy, mergers and acquisitions, strategic leadership, corporate governance, strategy implementation, strategic decision making under uncertainty, and related areas of organizational-level strategy.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in a relevant field and demonstrated teaching effectiveness in strategy are required.
  • Candidates must have some teaching experience.

  • A strong commitment to excellence in teaching within an undergraduate liberal arts setting.
  • A passion for innovative undergraduate teaching.
  • The capacity to publish scholarly research in business and related fields.
  • An enthusiasm for making service contributions to the W&L community.

Pay

The expected salary for this position is between $175,000 - $185,000. Offers are based on factors such as relevant education, experience, tenure status, internal equity, and market and organizational considerations.

Schedule

The school calendar consists of two 13-week terms, one in the fall and one in the winter, along with our unique 4-week spring term. The regular teaching load is five courses per year. New hires teach a 2-2 load in their first year.
