Lawrence University of Wisconsin, a selective undergraduate liberal arts college and conservatory of music located in Appleton, Wisconsin, invites applications for a full-time tenure track position to begin September 1, 2027.

About the role

We seek an individual who is passionate about teaching and working with undergraduate students in a liberal arts setting, an active and engaged scholar, and an effective mentor for students from diverse backgrounds. The successful candidate will teach BIOL 260: Genetics, one introductory biology course, and upper-level courses in their area of expertise. They will also participate in Lawrence’s flagship First-Year Studies program, an interdisciplinary introduction to the liberal arts intended to support new students’ fundamental skills as readers, writers, and thinkers.

Laboratory space, start-up funds, and support for professional development are available. The Department of Biology has excellent facilities to support faculty research and teaching, including state-of-the-art facilities for cell culture work, several model genetic and ecological systems, microscopy, biological imaging, and molecular work.

Responsibilities

  • Teach two non-lab courses (or one course with two lab sections) per trimester on a 10-week trimester calendar using active learning methods
  • Mentor student research projects and assess student learning
  • Advise and mentor students from diverse backgrounds
  • Assist in curricular planning and departmental/institutional service
  • Engage undergraduates in collaborative research and connect scholarship with teaching

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in biology or closely related field (completed prior to appointment)
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduates in a liberal arts setting
  • Active and engaged research agenda
  • Ability to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment for a diverse student body
