Assistant Professor of Biology

About the Role

Francis Marion University and the Department of Biology invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology. We seek candidates with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and research at a comprehensive liberal arts institution. While open to any discipline, the candidate must be able to teach introductory biology as well as human anatomy and/or human physiology. There is also opportunity to teach additional classes in the candidate’s area of expertise.

Generous internal funding is available on a competitive basis to support travel, research, and undergraduate scholarship.

Responsibilities

• Teach introductory biology, human anatomy, and/or human physiology
• Teach additional courses in the candidate’s area of expertise
• Perform scholarly activities, including mentoring undergraduate research projects
• Serve on department and university committees
• Provide academic advising for students
• Participate in additional professional services as needed

Requirements

• Earned doctorate in biology or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution (ABD candidates will be considered but must complete their degree before the contract starts)
• Demonstration of teaching human anatomy and/or physiology at the undergraduate level is preferred
