Position Overview
The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is seeking candidates for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Urban Horticulture. We seek a dynamic scholar-educator committed to excellence in teaching, student engagement, and applied horticulture research. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality undergraduate and graduate instruction, develop a productive and externally funded research program that addresses stakeholders' horticultural needs, engage in service to the department, college, and university, and support community and industry partnerships.
Minimum Requirements
- Ph.D. in Horticulture, or closely related discipline. The position requires an earned doctorate at the time of the anticipated appointment date.
- Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching in an agriculture-focused program.
- Demonstrated research expertise and potential to establish a productive program.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
- One or more years of post-doctoral research experience.
- Demonstrated record of independent research and strong track record of publishing.
- Strong research background in one or more areas of horticulture, including but not limited to controlled environment agriculture, urban food systems, hydroponics, aeroponics, and vertical farming.
- Prior university teaching experience and demonstrated teaching effectiveness.
- Experience working with stakeholders, horticultural producers, extension personnel, and/or industry or commodity partners.
- Strong potential in securing external research funding.
- Experience with greenhouse, farm, high-tunnel, or controlled-environment research facilities.
- Commitment to mentoring diverse student populations and supporting inclusive teaching practices.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills appropriate for land-grant outreach.
