Assistant Professor, Library and Information Science
Position Summary
The School of Information (SI) at Pratt Institute seeks to hire one full-time tenure-track faculty member at the assistant professor level. We seek a full-time faculty who can contribute notably to our M.S. Library and Information Science program.
We are open to a wide range of interests from the field of Library and Information Science. Potential areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Academic librarianship and scholarly communication
- Reference and Instruction
- Archives and preservation
- Misinformation and disinformation studies
- Connections between LIS and art, design, and architecture
- Activism and advocacy
- Civic/community engagement
- Special collections and ephemera
- Sustainability and LIS
- Engagement with users/stakeholders and UX librarianship
- Data literacy and Data librarianship
- Information ethics, policy and justice
- Makerspaces and other emerging models of instruction in libraries
About the Role
The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of courses in the M.S. Library and Information Science program, conduct research, and engage in professional development activities that support the mission of the School of Information.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching a variety of courses in the M.S. Library and Information Science program
- Conducting research that contributes to the field of Library and Information Science
- Engaging in professional development activities that support the mission of the School of Information
- Participating in departmental and institutional committees and initiatives
- Contributing to the intellectual life of the School of Information through participation in seminars, workshops, and conferences
Requirements
Required qualifications include:
- A Ph.D. in Library and Information Science or a related field
- Strong record of scholarship and publication
- Experience teaching in higher education
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience working in academic libraries
- Interest in interdisciplinary approaches to information studies
- Experience with data analysis and visualization
- Experience with digital humanities and cultural heritage
Skills
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Experience with educational technology and online learning platforms

Pay
The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000 per year.
Schedule
