About the role

The Department of Journalism and the Writing Professions at Baruch College, City University of New York, seeks an experienced journalist specializing in business journalism and/or economic journalism to join the faculty starting in fall 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a range of business-journalism related subjects covering economics, public companies and/or finance, as well as media literacy, journalistic writing and reporting, for print or multimedia.
  • Remain active as a business and/or economic journalist and publish regularly.
  • Be active and engaged in the life of the department and college.
  • Take on a leadership role in organizing events on timely and important topics in journalism.
  • Mentor students at all levels of development.
  • Be available to attend evening events sponsored by the department or to teach evening courses on occasion.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years experience as a professional business and/or economic journalist in a respected business publication, such as the Wall Street Journal, Forbes or The New York Times business section and/or a regional news outlet, such as the Texas Tribune or a regional public radio station.
  • A master's degree in journalism and/or an area of subject-matter expertise, such as business by August 25, 2027.
  • An established, and continuing, publication record in business and/or economic journalism, including both short-form and longer-form journalism.
  • Evidence of, or potential for, effective teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • The ability to use and teach discipline-relevant tools, such as FRED and EDGAR.
  • A commitment to fostering an inclusive academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A published book or book chapter in an established trade, independent, university or regional press.
  • Familiarity with narrative writing that incorporates research and reporting.
  • Knowledge of the emerging uses and implications of AI for business and journalism.

Pay

$86,741- $102,017; commensurate with qualifications and experience
