About the role

The Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication in the College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position to begin fall semester 2025 (08/25/2025).

Responsibilities

  • Show outstanding promise of sustaining a vigorous program of original research and publication with potential for external funding.
  • Show promise of excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising (both M.A. and Ph.D.).
  • Demonstrate the capacity and commitment to teach undergraduate courses in the areas of interactive and data journalism/data visualization, news reporting and writing, and other professionally-oriented journalism skills courses.
  • Contribute to the graduate curriculum in areas related to journalism and advanced research methods.
  • Contribute to potentially new curriculum involving AI and data science and reporting.
  • Show the ability to contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of a rapidly evolving emerging-media focused professional journalism curriculum, including use of artificial intelligence.

Requirements

  • Outstanding scholars with research and teaching interests that address contemporary issues in journalism practice and the profession.
  • A preference will be given to individuals with quantitative social science expertise using emerging methods of data science to advance applied studies of journalism.
  • Professional journalism experience and the capacity to contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of a rapidly evolving emerging-media focused professional journalism curriculum, including use of artificial intelligence, are preferred qualifications.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Journalism, Mass Communications, or a related field.
  • Strong record of research and publication.
  • Experience in teaching journalism and related fields.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.

Skills

  • Quantitative social science expertise using emerging methods of data science.
  • Experience with interactive and data journalism/data visualization.
  • Experience with news reporting and writing.
  • Ability to teach professionally-oriented journalism skills courses.
  • Ability to contribute to the graduate curriculum in areas related to journalism and advanced research methods.
  • Experience with artificial intelligence and data science in journalism.
