Assistant Professor in Coastal/Marine/Inland Water Remote Sensing and Geospatial Analysis

About the role

The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences seeks a tenure-accruing faculty member in the School of Forest Fisheries and Geomatics Sciences, focusing on applications of remote sensing, geospatial analytics, and visualization technologies to marine resource management.

Responsibilities

• Develop a collaborative, internationally recognized and externally funded research program focused on applications of remote sensing, geospatial analytics, and visualization technologies to marine resource management.
• Develop new methods for obtaining and analyzing geospatial information on the status, use, and environment of aquatic (inland, coastal, and/or marine) resources.
• Teach two courses: an undergraduate level course of wide appeal to aquatic science, natural resources, and geomatics students, and a graduate level class in their area of specialization.
• Engage in Extension activities in their program area.
• Support and participate in the CALS Honors Program, distance education, and international education.

Requirements

• A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in a relevant discipline such as remote sensing, fisheries or ocean sciences, geography, or geomatics is required.
• Demonstrated skills and experience in the application of remote sensing and geospatial analysis to aquatic (inland, coastal, and/or marine) resources management are expected.
• The ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams with faculty from departments and colleges outside the home academic unit is essential.
• Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, procurement of extramural funding, and working with stakeholders, along with a commitment to teaching and mentoring students.
