Assistant Professor, Ethnic Studies and Native American Studies

About the Role

The Borderlands and Ethnic Studies Department at New Mexico State University seeks a Tenure Track Assistant Professor qualified to teach courses in Ethnic Studies and Native American Studies, preferably through a broad Borderlands lens.

Responsibilities

• Provide undergraduate and graduate instruction in one or more of the department's three programs
• Publish/disseminate research and scholarly/creative productions aligned with their research agenda in one or more of the department's fields
• Participate in faculty governance, strategic planning, curriculum review and development, student outcome assessment, and advisement of undergraduate and graduate students
• Contribute to further developing curriculum and events/programming in Ethnic Studies and Native American Studies
• Contribute to student-focused recruitment and retention strategies in the department
• Continue forging partnerships with NMSU's American Indian Programs student services unit as well as other related units across campus

Required Qualifications

• Earned doctorate degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Ethnic Studies, Chicana/o or Latino/x/e Studies, and/or Native American Studies
• Ability to recruit and mentor undergraduate and graduate students
• Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Evidence of providing service to the professional and/or academic community

Working Conditions

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Light physical effort, applying to no more than two hours per day. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
