About the Role

The Borderlands and Ethnic Studies Department at New Mexico State University seeks a Tenure Track Assistant Professor qualified to teach courses in Ethnic Studies and Native American Studies, preferably through a broad Borderlands lens. Ideal candidates will contribute to curriculum development, events, and programming in Ethnic Studies and Native American Studies, as well as student-focused recruitment and retention strategies. The role includes forging partnerships with NMSU’s American Indian Programs and other related units across campus.

Responsibilities

• Provide undergraduate and graduate instruction in one or more of the department's three programs.
• Publish and disseminate research and scholarly/creative productions aligned with a research agenda in the department’s fields.
• Participate in faculty governance, strategic planning, curriculum review and development, student outcome assessment, and advisement of undergraduate and graduate students.

Requirements

• Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in Ethnic Studies, Chicana/o or Latino/x/e Studies, and/or Native American Studies.
• Ability to recruit and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Evidence of service to the professional and/or academic community.

$65,000

Schedule

Standard (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM), 9-month faculty appointment.

Working Conditions

• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment.
• Light physical effort, with no more than two hours per day of standing or walking.
• Requires handling objects up to 10 pounds.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
