Assistant Professor - Clinical - Psychiatry
Position Overview

The mission of the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral health is to improve, advance, and innovate behavioral healthcare and foster resilience in our patients and our communities. Our emphasis across conditions is on delivery and development of empirically supported treatments and approaches. We seek a sport psychologist to join our Sport Psychology and Wellness Services (SPAWS), serving OSU varsity student athletes. This individual will serve as Assistant Director within SPAWS, providing individual assessment and counseling services, while facilitating, executing, and overseeing the day-to-day services. Within SPAWS, the Assistant Director is responsible to its Director.

The successful candidates will join a 70+-member Section of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health. Our Section offers robust training opportunities, including externship experiences, psychology pre-doctoral internship, and several fellowship programs. Duties And Responsibilities
Faculty responsibilities are consistent with our tripartite mission – patient care, education, and clinical research. The position requires thorough knowledge of the DSM-5 and mental health diagnoses within the ICD-10. The individual selected for this position will have opportunities to contribute to training, research, and other scholarly pursuits.
- Athletic counseling (~50% of time): provides psychotherapeutic interventions to assist student-athlete to cope with mental health disorders, relationship problems, performance issues, and related environmental, educational, and vocational concerns, identifying present and potential student-athlete psychosocial problems and implements plans for problem resolution, maintain documentation for medical records, consulting with the care team and other medical specialists to enhance student-athlete outcomes
- Wellness/prevention services (~25%): visits practices, competitions, training rooms, and athletic facilities regularly, deliver performance consultation to teams, deliver psychoeducational programming to student-athletes, participate in interdisciplinary student-athlete care conferences and team meetings, participate in staff meetings, in-services, continuing education programs, research activities, CQI and performance improvement activities, participates in monthly peer supervision
- Administrative/leadership (~25%): develops and monitor implementation of clinical services, initiatives, and programming, participates in cross collaboration meetings with respective stakeholders, supervise interns and administrative staff based on staffing needs, lead staff meetings as needed
- Other duties include but are not limited to representing the program or Department by participating in committees, conferences, and representing OSU at professional meetings and community speaking engagements
- The psychologist is expected to practice within the established Medical Center and standards of practice (policies, procedures, protocols), and adhere to key results areas of the Medical Center
Requirements
- Doctoral Degree in Psychology or allied discipline
- Licensed or license-eligible in the state of Ohio
- Applicants must be from an APA- or CPA-accredited clinical or counseling psychology doctoral program (with an accredited clinical internship) and be licensed in Ohio by the time of appointment; candidates from other disciplines should have a similar background
- Preference will be given to candidates who have at least three years of clinical work and administrative experience within collegiate athletics
- The individual must be competent in technical clinical skills and must possess the cognitive and interpersonal skills required to participate in our academic community and to serve patients receiving the above-mentioned services
