Essential Job Functions
- Provide high-quality clinical services within the assigned specialty area
- Participate in the teaching and supervision of medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare trainees in clinical and classroom settings
- Develop and deliver educational materials, lectures, and training programs that support the institution's educational mission
- Maintain an active clinical practice and contribute to patient care excellence
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance curriculum development and clinical training programs
- Participate in departmental, college, and university committees and service activities
- Engage in quality improvement, program development, and other scholarly activities consistent with a clinical practice faculty appointment
- Maintain professional licensure, board certification, and compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements
- Foster an environment of professionalism, diversity, equity, and inclusion in clinical and educational settings
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or designated supervisor
Associate Professor - Additional Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in teaching, research, clinical service, and/or professional practice within the department
- Develop, maintain, and deliver high-quality educational programs for students, residents, fellows, and other trainees
- Conduct and sustain an independent program of scholarly activity, including research, publications, presentations, and grant development, as appropriate to the division
- Mentor junior faculty, trainees, and students in academic, research, and professional development activities
- Participate in curriculum development, program evaluation, and accreditation-related initiatives
- Serve on departmental, college, university, and professional committees and contribute to institutional governance
- Foster interdisciplinary collaborations that advance the department's academic, clinical, and research missions
- Maintain professional licensure, certifications, and credentials required for the position
- Contribute to faculty recruitment, retention, and development efforts
- Promote an inclusive and collegial environment that supports diversity, equity, and excellence in education, research, and service
- Participate in community engagement, professional organizations, and regional or national academic activities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or designated supervisor
Professor - Additional Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and vision in advancing the department's academic, research, clinical, and service missions
- Maintain a distinguished record of scholarly achievement through research, publications, presentations, and other creative or professional activities
- Secure and manage external funding and support collaborative research initiatives, as appropriate to the discipline
- Teach and mentor students, residents, fellows, postdoctoral scholars, and faculty at all levels
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of academic programs, curricula, and educational initiatives
- Serve as a senior academic leader and advisor within the division
- Mentor junior and mid-career faculty in teaching, research, clinical practice, promotion, and professional development
- Foster interdisciplinary collaborations that enhance research, education, and clinical excellence
- Participate in faculty recruitment, retention, promotion, and tenure review processes
- Represent the institution through leadership roles in professional societies, academic organizations, and community engagement activities
- Promote a culture of excellence, innovation, integrity, and inclusion within the academic/clinical community
- Maintain professional licensure, certifications, and credentials required for the position
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or designated supervisor
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited medical school
- Successful completion of an accredited residency training program
- Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE) in the applicable surgical specialty
- Unrestricted Texas medical license
Academic rank and tenure status will be determined during the interview and evaluation process and will be commensurate with the selected candidate's qualifications, experience, and achievements.
