About the role
This is a faculty position responsible to the Chair of the Department of Hospital Medicine who reports to the Head of the Division of Internal Medicine.
General Duties
- Focusing the majority of clinical activity in the Inpatient Service.
- Possessing strong communication skills to interact with patients, family members, hospital staff, and other faculty members.
- Providing clinical expertise in patient care management and an appropriate teaching environment for fellows, residents, and students in the specialty of Onco-Hospital Medicine.
- Maintaining full ambulatory capability and having excellent bilateral manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, visual, and auditory acuity.
- Maintaining emotional and psychological stability to manage patients and their families in a compassionate and positive manner.
- Participating in the development of clinical research studies and being independently responsible for new patient evaluations, appropriate referrals, and follow-up.
- Engaging in clinical research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the Department.
- Practicing clinical medicine in an exemplary manner in accordance with the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners and the American College of Physicians.
- Developing and maintaining a clinical practice for patients referred to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
- Providing physician staffing for the Department of Hospital Medicine at a level commensurate with other internists with the same level of training and experience.
- Visually reviewing for proper ICD-9 and CPT coding and approving all charge documents within 5 working days.
- Completing patient documentation for medical records within time frames provided by institutional policy.
- Corresponding as appropriate in writing or in telephone conversations with physicians regarding patient care and treatment.
- Keeping up-to-date with current approaches in the management of patients through attendance at continuing education conferences.
- Requesting appropriate consultations for patients by phone conversations or in writing to other physicians.
- Acting as a role model as a practitioner for faculty, fellows, residents, and students.
- Providing peer review for assessing the clinical practice of faculty within the Department.
Experience
- Completed the M.D. degree in an accredited medical school or equivalent.
- Completed residency training in an approved American Residency Program or equivalent.
- Made application and been accepted by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
- Be licensed as a physician in the State of Texas.
- Board certified in Internal Medicine or obtain board certification within 3 years of employment.
- A minimum of at least 2 years as an Instructor or 5 years post-degree with any combination of time as a clinician, clinical scientist, or GME Trainee (except specialties with shorter residencies or fellowships).
Qualifications
