About the role
The Department of Journalism and the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in journalism to begin in August 2027. The department and college have a collegial and productive culture of research and teaching, engaged students, and promote a supportive environment for individual growth.
The successful candidate must be able to teach effectively in our journalism curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels and in our college-wide Ph.D. program, and regularly publish peer-reviewed research in our field. Mentoring graduate students and service to the college is also expected.
The effort allocation for the position is 50% teaching, 45% research, and 5% service.
Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in journalism or mass communication, or a Ph.D. in a related field that includes a stream of journalism- or mass-communication-related research.
- ABD candidates also will be considered.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- A research agenda in areas related to journalism, news, or informational media.
- A proven strong research record or potential for a strong research record that includes publication of peer-reviewed articles in leading scholarly journals in journalism, mass communication, and/or related fields.
- An interest in mentoring graduate students and a desire to engage students from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
- The ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in our curriculum, including courses in their area of expertise.
- An interest in teaching courses in areas including: media law, new technology/AI, political communication, media history, multimedia journalism, and/or media management.
