Assistant Professor
About the role
The Lake Forest College Biology Department invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level, starting August 2027. We are seeking a highly qualified biologist to help lead our introductory biology course BIOL 120: Organismal Biology and teach our upper-level Plant Biology course BIOL 384, both with laboratories.
Responsibilities
- Teach three courses per semester (labs count as a full course): BIOL 120, BIOL 384, and potentially additional courses in the applicant’s area of expertise.
- Develop an active undergraduate-led research program that expands the department’s expertise and results in peer-reviewed publications and external funding.
- Earn a half-year sabbatical at full pay after the third year of review, in preparation for tenure.
Requirements
Postdoctoral experience is required. Demonstrated excellence in teaching beyond the traditional TA experience is strongly preferred.
Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in Biology or a related field.
- Experience teaching introductory biology and upper-level plant biology courses.
- Ability to teach in the First Year Studies Program.
- Active engagement in interdisciplinary programs in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Environmental Studies, and Neuroscience.
Skills
Strong communication skills, ability to work collaboratively, and a commitment to inclusive teaching and mentoring.
