The University of Michigan School of Nursing seeks applications from outstanding nurse scientists and interdisciplinary scholars whose research advances health and healthcare across the lifespan. We welcome candidates at all stages of their careers, from emerging scholars with strong potential for sustained research success to established leaders with nationally or internationally recognized programs of research. Applicants will be considered for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor based on experience, evidence of scholarly accomplishments, and expected future impact.
Particular areas of interest include, but are not limited to, pediatric health; women's health; chronic disease prevention and management; digital health innovations; AI in health; and interventions that improve health outcomes for individuals, families, and communities. Candidates should demonstrate a record of research productivity and the potential to contribute meaningfully to the UMSN's mission of advancing health through science, education, mentorship, leadership, and service.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications for All Ranks
- PhD in nursing or a highly related field.
- For nursing PhDs, a current MI nursing license is required or eligibility for a nursing license in the State of Michigan.
- Prior to start date, must be in compliance with all health requirements including standard precautions such as Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, orientations, relevant licenses/certifications, policies and procedures both internal and external to the University for assigned classroom(s), clinical site(s), and/or research site(s).
- Record of first-author, indexed, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations.
- Demonstrate excellent communication, networking, and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated competence in scholarly activity.
- Evidence of teaching and mentoring ability.

- Record of excellence in teaching.
- Distinguished record of scholarly attainment in scientific investigation, publication, and utilization of research findings in teaching, research, and service.

- A reputation, supported by documented external evaluation, which recognizes leadership and the quality of research activities, publications, and contributions to the profession.
- A continuing record of recognized accomplishments in academic, professional, and community service.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct nursing practice experience (e.g., RN, APRN) in clinical settings (e.g., hospital, community-based).
- Experience teaching students in basic and pre-health sciences courses (e.g., microbiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology).
Application Materials
- Teaching statement describing teaching philosophy, experience in teaching across programs and settings (i.e., didactic and clinical).
- Research statement including a description of three to five peer-reviewed publications, with an emphasis on the most recent and representative.
- Service statement.
If selected to move forward in the process, applicants will be asked to submit additional materials as noted in the School of Nursing Faculty Handbook, including professional letters of recommendation, transcripts of highest degrees, and compliance requirements.
Schedule
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.
This position is posted as Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor. The rank of the selected candidate will depend upon qualifications. Complete application packets must be submitted by November 30, 2026. The Faculty Search Committee will review applications through early Spring term 2027.
