Assistant Professor 10 Months - Psychology

The Department of Psychology within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Albany invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Behavioral Neuroscience. The department seeks candidates specializing in brain and behavioral processes underlying sensory-perceptual processing, learning and memory, emotion, stress systems, cognition, neurodegenerative disease, and/or mental health disorders. Candidates should employ modern research approaches such as Optogenetics, Chemogenetics, 2-photon imaging, genetic mouse models, or machine learning methods. The successful applicant will contribute to a vibrant academic community with opportunities for collaboration through the Center for Neuroscience Research.

Responsibilities

• Conduct innovative research and publish in peer-reviewed journals, including presenting at professional meetings and securing external funding.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in behavioral neuroscience, including course preparation and development.
• Mentor graduate and undergraduate students, including chairing and serving on doctoral dissertation committees.
• Contribute to service at the departmental, college, and university levels, including admissions, advising, and governance.
• Supervise laboratory personnel, including postdoctoral researchers, research scientists, and technicians.

Requirements

• Ph.D. degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related discipline of behavioral neuroscience from an accredited institution by August 15, 2026.
• Demonstrated potential for research in Behavioral Neuroscience or related fields.
• Potential to obtain independent extramural funding.
• Interest and ability to teach behavioral neuroscience courses and supervise trainees.
• Ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within a diverse campus community and support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging.

Preferred Qualifications

• Promising and growing track record of impactful research.
• Demonstrated ability to secure external research funding.
• Research focus on non-human models of learning and memory, emotion, stress systems, cognition, or preclinical/translational models of neurodegenerative diseases, neurodevelopmental disorders, and mental health disorders.
• Experience teaching at the collegiate level, particularly in behavioral neuroscience.
• Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
