Assistant Principals of Operations (APOs) lead the operational execution and systems that make excellent teaching and learning possible every day. APOs design, manage, and continuously improve school-wide structures related to attendance, enrollment, facilities, safety, scheduling, and assessment logistics to ensure schools run smoothly and students maximize time in learning. They build and develop high-performing operations teams, establish clear processes for accountability and communication, and use operational data to identify challenges and drive solutions.
As key members of the campus leadership team, APOs partner closely with instructional and student services leaders to remove barriers to learning, steward resources responsibly, and ensure strong implementation of campus priorities. Through proactive problem-solving, attention to detail, and deep ownership, they help create safe, joyful, and efficient school environments where staff can focus on instruction and students can thrive.
Responsibilities
- Operational Systems & School Execution
- Lead the design and execution of daily operational systems that maximize instructional time, including arrival, transitions, supervision, dismissal, and attendance tracking routines.
- Establish clear and consistent processes for attendance monitoring and follow-up that support strong student persistence and achievement of average daily attendance goals.
- Manage school-wide logistics such as scheduling, materials distribution, space usage, and event coordination to ensure smooth execution of campus priorities.
- Develop efficient operational systems that enable teams to maintain excellence while focusing on the highest-impact initiatives.
- Enrollment, Persistence & Family Operations
- Oversee student recruitment logistics and enrollment processes to ensure schools meet enrollment targets and maintain strong student retention.
- Build operational structures that strengthen family engagement and support positive scholar and family experiences.
- Maintain clear communication systems that keep families informed and aligned with school expectations, priorities, and opportunities.
- Facilities, Safety & Learning Environment
- Ensure facilities are clean, safe, welcoming, and conducive to strong teaching and learning.
- Lead safety procedures and emergency preparedness systems that protect students, staff, and families.
- Manage supervision systems and campus logistics that reinforce student belonging and support positive school culture.
- Data Systems, Compliance & Resource Stewardship
- Maintain accurate and accessible scholar and family data systems that support compliance, informed decision-making, and timely responses to student needs.
- Manage school budgets and operational resources to ensure responsible stewardship and alignment to schoolwide priorities.
- Support compliance with network, district, and state policies and operational expectations.
- Operations Team Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Manage and develop operations staff through regular coaching, clear expectations, and performance feedback that strengthens team effectiveness.
- Build systems that promote accountability, candid communication, and continuous operational improvement.
- Model solutions-oriented leadership and deep ownership for the execution of school priorities.
- Logistics & Leadership Team Contribution
- Serve as a key member of the campus leadership team to align operational systems with instructional and student services priorities.
- Participate actively in leadership meetings, school events, and professional learning to ensure strong execution across the school.
- Partner proactively with instructional and student services leaders to align operational execution with academic and school culture priorities.

Attendance, enrollment, scheduling, and assessment logistics are executed with consistency and precision, allowing teachers and leaders to focus fully on delivering excellent instruction. Facilities are safe, welcoming, and well-maintained, contributing to joyful and productive learning environments for students and staff.
Operations team members show growth in effectiveness through clear expectations, coaching, and continuous improvement systems. Accurate and accessible data support timely decision-making and compliance, while responsible resource management ensures schools remain aligned with budget and strategic priorities. Families experience operational systems as clear, responsive, and supportive of their partnership with the school. Through proactive problem-solving and deep ownership for execution, you help remove barriers to learning and contribute meaningfully to the overall performance and culture of your school.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- At least three years of school-based operations experience with demonstrated success improving systems, managing competing priorities, and driving strong execution
- Two to three years of direct people management experience
- Experience engaging effectively with families and community members, ideally in an educational context
- Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement of systems, structures, and procedures
- Successful completion of a background check
