Reports To
School Principal
Supervises
Faculty and staff in the Salt Point Center.
Qualifications
- NYS certification as a School Building Leader is required.
- NYS Certification in Special Education title is required.
- Experience with the New York State Alternate Assessment and Middle School Level experience preferred.
- Minimum of three years of successful leadership experience in the area of Special Education is required.
- Elementary and Middle School experience preferred.
- Involvement with Autism Training preferred.
- Successful record in the planning, development and assessment of PBIS.
- Successful record of service as teacher is required.
- Strong communication, problem solving, and human relations skills.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and supervision to Salt Point Center programs at Dutchess BOCES.
- Exercise sound judgment and appropriate discretion in the administration of professional duties.
- Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of laws and regulations related to student discipline.
- Evaluate assigned personnel for the purpose of ensuring that standards are achieved and performance is maximized.
- Facilitate communication between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts.
- Implement policies, procedures and/or processes for the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
- Intervene in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills.
- Manage a variety of school administrative functions (e.g. student disciplinary policy, school schedule, assigned personnel, arrivals/departures etc.) for the purpose of enforcing school, district and state policy and maintaining safety and efficiency of school operations.
- Oversee the training and implementation of Crisis Intervention Protocols.
- Participate in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Work with other administrators and participate in the recruitment, orientation and induction, mentoring, and evaluation of faculty and support staff assigned to Salt Point Center.
- Serve as the Extended School Year School Principal.
- Perform other administrative and/or supervisory duties as assigned.
Evaluation
The Assistant Principal's performance will be evaluated annually by the Principal.
