About the role

The Assistant Preconstruction Manager supports the Preconstruction Manager team in steering construction opportunities through early-stage estimating and preconstruction. This role is ideal for an innovative collaborator who thrives in team environments delivering superior results.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Preconstruction Manager team with all project pursuit and preconstruction deliverables from commencement through collaboration with Corporate, Operational leadership, and Estimating.
  • Review project documentation for quality, content, and constructability.
  • Assist with all required deliverables for project pursuit and preconstruction efforts.
  • Manage project pursuit and preconstruction timelines, setting deadlines to ensure on-time, high-quality client deliverables.
  • Coordinate with corporate marketing to develop proposal documents as required.
  • Actively manage client relationships during project pursuit and preconstruction to ensure success.
  • Evaluate and review potential risk factors with management.
  • Coordinate constructability resolutions and request pricing for alternative design concepts.
  • Ensure preliminary construction schedules align with estimates.
  • Review cost models during preconstruction and bidding periods.
  • Assist with contract documents.
  • Consult with Operational leadership, scheduling, estimating, legal, cost control, and procurement teams.
  • Monitor design progress for compliance with defined cost, schedule, and quality criteria to revise proposals and resolve constructability issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or a relevant discipline with 2-4 years of related experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction markets and business sectors, with proven success in the COE construction market.
  • Thorough familiarity with construction concepts, definitions, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of local planning, permitting, and zoning regulations.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and self-direction skills.

Working Conditions

  • Regularly required to sit for long periods, talk, hear, and perform fine motor tasks (keyboard, telephone, writing).
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with arms/hands.
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Office environment with quiet to moderate noise levels; occasional job site walking.

Base salary is one component of Suffolk’s total rewards package. Actual salaries are based on factors including skill set, experience, and education.
