Position Summary

The San Francisco Giants are seeking an Assistant, Player Development – Mandarin Interpreter to join the Baseball Operations Department. This position provides comprehensive support across multiple areas of Player Development.

Position Responsibilities

  • Translation & Interpretation
    • Provide accurate interpretation and translation services of Mandarin for players and staff in baseball and non-baseball social and informational settings, including but not limited to on-field, off-field, cages, training room, classroom, and clubhouse.
    • Schedule and accompany players to outside appointments as needed.
    • Aid in player paperwork, documents, company card reconciliation and other administrative tasks, as needed.
  • Baseball Activity Support
    • Support the on-field coaching staff when needed by being available to assist in basic on-field activities such as playing catch, feeding machines, hitting fungos, and supporting drill work.
  • Education
    • Assist teachers in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of players, as needed.
    • Contribute to the development of the education curriculum by providing creative, appropriate and educationally enriching activity recommendations.
    • Educate players and staff on cultural differences to support communication, understanding, and player integration.
  • Administrative & Logistics
    • Aid in travel logistics, hotel reservations, and appointments for various events.
    • Aid in compiling and updating schedules, rosters, and databases for Player Development.
    • Regular communication with staff regarding daily needs/scheduling.
    • Work effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds.
    • Aid in the management of Trello, Contact List, and schedules.
    • Aid in miscellaneous and ad hoc tasks as needed.

Skills And Qualifications

  • Native or professional fluency in Mandarin and English.
  • Ability to accurately interpret and translate baseball-related information between Mandarin and English on and off the field.
  • Former baseball playing, coaching, or training experience preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Google Drive, Trello, and Microsoft Excel is preferred.
  • Proficiency with SQL is a plus.
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner.
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to contributing to a strong team culture.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to provide transportation support as needed.
