What You Will Be Doing

  • Support the oversight of the clinical and operational functions of the patients and staff in the operating rooms.
  • Work with the Patient Care Director, Medical and Surgical teams and Professional Development (PD) team to set goals and objectives in accordance with HSS strategic initiatives.
  • Plan, organize, and monitor unit activities.
  • Facilitate efficient and cost-effective daily operations.
  • Aid in the management and evaluation of unit and staff performance.
  • Establish an environment where both staff and patients are able to reach their full potential.
  • Collaborate with the Patient Care Director, Frontline staff and the Interdisciplinary Team to promote the highest standards of care and safety.
  • Coordinate and lead unit activities to assure optimal and appropriate care for patients, consistent with the philosophy and goals of the Nursing Department and Hospital for Special Surgery.
  • Facilitate staff involvement in hospital wide committees.
  • Collaborate with the team to coordinate the plan of care for all complex patients.
  • Complete/ Monitor NDNQI Audits in collaboration with Clinicians.
  • Complete/ Monitor Nursing Tracer and Environmental Tracer unit audits.
  • Support all clinical operations of the unit as needed such as Charge nurse, clinical assignments as needed.
  • Utilize performance improvement model (Plan-Do-Study-Act) to improve patient outcomes.
  • Work as a leader, with clinical staff on unit projects (1 per year).
  • Facilitate coordination and collaboration between all units to improve patient and staff experience as well as improve workflow processes.
  • Partners with the Patient Care Directors regarding clinical practice, staff communication, time utilization, change facilitation and staff assignments.
  • Develop developing quality management and performance improvement activities.
  • Address areas of weakness and develop plans for improvement.
  • Partner with the Patient Care Director for performance management and evaluations.
  • Partner with Patient Care Director in implementing operational policies and procedures to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Understand Magnet nursing principles and culture; drive Magnet initiatives.
  • Supports/ Coordinates with all levels of the leadership team to support staffing for all areas.
  • Maintain cultural and diversity appreciation when interacting with patients and their families, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to improve workflow and enhance patient experience.
  • Cover Patient Care Directors in their absence.
  • Cover Nursing Coordinator role if needed.

Job Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors Nursing / BSN required.
  • Required: Masters (must be currently enrolled in Masters program).
  • Required: Registered Nurse NYS License, AHA BLS.
  • Required: Certification in CNOR or Orthopedics recognized by ANCC.
