Assistant Outdoor Learning Manager – Eyam Edge Farm – Ruskin Mill Trust

40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. Starting salary dependent on qualifications and experience: £39,125 – £44,272.

About the role

An exciting opportunity to join Brantwood Garden School as an Assistant Outdoor Learning Manager. We require a committed assistant for the current Deputy Principal of the Outdoor Provision to help further develop and manage our established farm school based in Eyam, Derbyshire. This is a significant role, suited to a person with experience of working with young people with complex needs.

This is a working farm with a focus on using Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE) to engage our students. We work on the land to inspire our students through seasonal activities using natural resources and the ‘seed to table’ approach. Helping to design, resource and teach such activities would be a key part of the role. The successful candidate must be able to see the learning opportunities in the landscape and therefore contribute to the future development of the farm.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Deputy Principal of the Outdoor Provision in managing the farm school
• Design, resource, and teach seasonal activities using natural resources and the ‘seed to table’ approach
• Contribute to the future development of the farm by identifying learning opportunities in the landscape

Requirements

• Experience working with animals (essential)
• Experience working with young people with complex needs
• Full driving licence (essential)
• Proven ability to lead, manage sensitive issues, and maintain confidentiality
• Trained in Biodynamic Agriculture or willing to attend training and work towards a qualification

Qualifications

• Full teaching qualification or equivalent experience (desirable)
• Teaching and horticultural experience (desirable)

The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching and hold a teaching qualification. However, we would still welcome applications from individuals who have not yet achieved this but are willing to train and learn.
