About the role

Christendom College invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor position in the English Language and Literature Department, beginning August 15, 2027. The college prefers candidates with a scholarly focus on modern British and/or American literature but seeks someone able to teach any literature course in the core curriculum, which spans works from Homer and Virgil to Dostoevsky and Flannery O'Connor.

Responsibilities

• Teach four courses per semester in the English Language and Literature curriculum.
• Maintain a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and contribute to a community guided by faith and reason.
• Participate in the annual profession of the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium as required by Ex corde Ecclesiae.
• Pursue scholarship, with the possibility of a reduced teaching load subject to approval by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Requirements

• Hold a Ph.D. in English or a closely related field; Ph.D. candidates who can demonstrate teaching excellence will also be considered.
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate instruction.
• Be qualified to teach literature courses covering the core curriculum from ancient authors (Homer, Virgil) to modern writers (Dostoevsky, Flannery O'Connor).
• Preference given to applicants with a research focus on modern British and/or American literature.
• Willingness to profess the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium annually.
