About This Role

Develop and deliver nationally and internationally recognized teaching and research programs. Areas of teaching and research emphasis will be around risk management covering issues such as biosecurity, food safety, input markets, weather, macroeconomics, commodity markets, trade, and exchange rates. The Department is known for research and extension programs that address real-world problems in local, state, national, and global agriculture and agribusiness.

• Teach at least two classes a year at the undergraduate and/or graduate level; the specific course appointments will be based on department needs and applicant's areas of expertise
• Mentor undergraduate students and advise and direct research by graduate students
• Attract grant funds to support teaching and research programs
• Develop collaborative programs with other faculty, units, and departments at Kansas State University, and with allied industry organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders

About Us

The Department has a reputation for excellence in all three functions of the University's land grant mission (teaching, research, and extension). The successful candidate is expected to be an active contributor to the Department's teaching and research programs. The Department offers B.S. degrees in agricultural economics and agribusiness, an M.S. degree in agricultural economics, a Master of Agribusiness (MAB) degree, and a Ph.D. in economics with a specialization in agricultural economics. Currently, over 350 undergraduate and 100 graduate students are enrolled in our programs.

Worksite

This position is on-site. All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Assistant Professor: Ph.D. or equivalent in agricultural economics, applied economics, or a closely related field. Strong record of academic achievement, desire to develop a renowned research program, excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Associate Professor: Ph.D. or equivalent in agricultural economics, applied economics, or closely related field. Experience in classroom instruction. Strong record of published research, excellent written and oral communication skills.

The degree requirement is necessary for accreditation purposes and to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level.

Preferred Qualifications

• Assistant Professor: Research publications in peer-reviewed journals, experience in writing grant proposals, outreach activities, and demonstrated ability to initiate and advance projects with minimal supervision.
• Associate Professor: Established record of excellent research publications in peer-reviewed journals, success in obtaining grant funding, experience developing relevant extension programming, and demonstrated ability to initiate and advance projects with minimal supervision.
