Responsibilities

  • Shared 24/7 accountability with the Nursing Operations Manager for unit/department management, including nursing practice and administrative oversight
  • Participates in recruitment and selection of new team members through interviews, peer selection, and candidate evaluation
  • Coordinates with the Unit/Department Nursing Operations Manager and Human Resources on corrective action, progressive discipline, and career advancement
  • Investigates event reports and provides feedback to the Nursing Operations Manager and team members
  • Oversees unit scheduling to ensure appropriate staffing levels for patient care
  • Maintains oversight of patient flow and intervenes to achieve expected outcomes
  • Performs Nurse Leader rounds to identify variances from best practices and regulatory standards; participates in process/quality improvement initiatives
  • Ensures a positive customer experience and provides service recovery to patients and families as needed
  • Interfaces with patients and families to provide instruction, promote participation in care, and coordinate nursing activities
  • Leads or participates in staff meetings, GEMBA boards, or huddles; demonstrates ownership of unit outcomes
  • Performs direct patient care activities as required to meet operational needs
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Respects patient and staff privacy, ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Ensures incident reports are completed appropriately and follows up on event reports
  • Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies and federal/state/local standards
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures

Leadership

  • Communicates ideas clearly and effectively in verbal and written formats to team members and groups
  • Advocates for nursing staff to represent patient, family, and staff concerns

Human Resource Management

  • Manages human resources functions, including recruitment, selection, retention, supervision, coaching, and productivity
  • Assists with clinical evaluations of team members, completes performance evaluations, and conducts timely assessments
  • Ensures compliance with certifications, licenses, and required education for team members
  • Influences team members to enhance their abilities and promote professional development

Clinical Practice Knowledge

  • Supports the Professional Practice Model values of clinical excellence and caring practice
  • Demonstrates superior clinical and critical thinking skills for the assigned unit/department

Performance/Quality Improvement

  • Monitors compliance and outcomes to identify issues and trends; leads process/quality improvement initiatives
  • Ensures practice changes are evidence-based, promote high-quality nursing practice, and align with research, organizational, and national standards

  • Manages time and resources efficiently to maximize unit/department productivity
  • Promotes cost-effective management of equipment and supplies

  • Upholds ethical standards of practice

Qualifications

  • Bachelor in Nursing Degree (BSN) Required
  • Bachelor in Nursing (BSN) with a graduate degree in Business or a health-related field Preferred
  • Master’s in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Preferred
  • 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting Required
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) Required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Required
  • One or more of the following certifications may be required based on assigned patient population:
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
    • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC)
