About the role

The Assistant Nurse Manager (RN, CRL, CNL) position at Hartford HealthCare’s Family Birthing Center in New Britain, CT, supervises patient care, clinical personnel, and unit operations. This role collaborates with functional leadership and oversees daily operations, including off-shift and weekend supervision of nursing and non-licensed staff.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a work group to ensure high-quality, cost-effective patient and family-centered care aligned with the hospital's strategic plan and departmental goals.
  • Collaborate with functional leadership to oversee daily operations of the assigned department, including managing resources, quality improvement, payroll, creating and maintaining schedules, and monitoring patient throughput.
  • Create and maintain a safe and therapeutic unit environment, supporting leadership in fostering standards of excellence and professional development.
  • Participate in and lead Performance Improvement work in the assigned department.
  • Support leadership in ensuring standards of excellence and professional development are fostered and met.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Experience: 2 years of acute care nursing experience required.

Qualifications

  • Licensure, Certification, Registration: Registered Nurse, State of CT; Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) provider from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Knowledge, Skills And Abilities: Knowledge of principles and practices of nursing and healthcare administration; Demonstrated ability to make sound clinical assessments and institute safe and effective care; Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; Proven ability to lead courageous conversations, hold colleagues accountable, and manage change and conflict; Knowledge of all relevant policies and procedures; Knowledge of high reliability organizations (HRO) and LEAN process improvement strategies; Demonstrated leadership skills and a commitment to lifelong learning as a methodology for promoting continuous quality improvement in the delivery of patient care and services; Ability to manage multiple priorities and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment; Must be able to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team; Demonstrates effective leadership through collaborative partnerships in accordance with Nursing Professional Practice model; Strong ability to problem solve and make decisions in a fast-paced environment and in emergency situations; Fosters an inclusive workplace where diversity and individual differences are valued and maximized to achieve the mission and vision of the organization; Proficient in Microsoft Office; Ensures the presence of a safe and healthful work environment, promoting self-care and empowerment.
