Assistant Nurse Manager-Internal Medicine

Under the general direction of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) practices within the Lahey Clinic Professional Practice Model, MA State Nurse Practice Act, and ANA Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Practice: Develops, implements, and assures compliance with Nursing Practice Guidelines. Encourages staff participation in Shared Governance Councils, nursing committees, and organizational committees. Maintains knowledge of current professional/clinical issues and uses evidence-based resources to implement changes in nursing care delivery. Collaborates with the leadership team to provide staff development opportunities, including participation in nursing research, certification in the nursing field, and involvement in professional organizations. When providing direct patient care, demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to meet expected standards of care. Determines staff assignments based on patient acuity and staff skill mix.
  • System Coordination: Links departmental goals to the organization’s mission and goals in collaboration with the Nurse Manager. Works collaboratively to solve problems, improve processes, and integrate services within and across departments. Supports new ideas and changes within the department. Organizes and prioritizes work to meet deadlines. Develops effective communication methods to keep staff informed about organizational and departmental activities. Facilitates patient flow using necessary computer applications in conjunction with the Nursing Supervisor.
  • Quality Improvement: Monitors compliance with regulatory criteria and standards of care. Reviews outcome measures and collaborates with staff and leadership to improve patient outcomes (e.g., National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) and Core Measures). Works with multidisciplinary teams to comply with regulatory standards, improve patient satisfaction, and enhance patient outcomes. Identifies, assesses, measures, and systematically improves important processes and activities.
  • Human Resource Management: Collaborates with the Nurse Manager to recruit, hire, and retain qualified personnel. Participates in the performance appraisal process. Ensures appropriate orientation, competence assessment, in-service training, and continuing education for all staff. Fosters staff development by assisting them in identifying goals and learning opportunities. Encourages creativity and celebrates staff accomplishments. Promotes an environment sensitive to the diverse needs of patients and employees. Coaches and supports staff by removing barriers and addressing issues. Actively participates in staff meetings. Communicates staffing concerns to the Nurse Manager or Associate Chief. Delegates work appropriately and provides direction to nursing and support staff. Coordinates unit scheduling and staffing.
  • Budgetary Responsibilities: Develops and implements cost-effective staffing patterns. Uses resources effectively to provide high-quality, cost-efficient services. Promotes staff awareness of hospital costs and assists the Nurse Manager with unit budget maintenance. Manages expenses and identifies areas for potential cost savings. Maintains ANSOS daily to ensure accurate staffing patterns for payroll purposes.
  • Professional Growth/Self-Improvement: Pursues self-awareness, actively seeks feedback, and modifies behavior accordingly. Engages in professional development activities such as education and participation in professional associations. Maintains continuing education requirements for licensure, certifications, and enhancements. Supports community-based activities within and beyond the Lahey community.
  • Organizational Requirements: Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles, Mission Statement, and Goals into daily activities. Complies with all Lahey Clinic Policies and behavioral expectations. Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients. Demonstrates an understanding of job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment. Commits to meeting and exceeding customer needs while adhering to Customer Service standards. Participates in departmental and interdepartmental quality improvement activities. Completes mandatory education and performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Current licensure to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification.
  • Minimum of three years of acute care nursing experience.
  • BSN required; Master’s degree preferred.

Pay

Annual base salary range: $140,000.00 USD - $208,000.00 USD. Actual compensation is determined based on factors such as seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, and job responsibilities.

Additional Information

As a health care organization, Beth Israel Lahey Health requires all staff to be vaccinated against influenza (flu) as a condition of employment.
