About the role
The Central Inpatient Unit at Hospice of Cincinnati is a 40-bed unit caring for patients with diverse end-of-life needs. This role supports the Nurse Manager with 24-hour accountability for operations, including patient care outcomes, staff management, quality, service, and financial performance.
Responsibilities
- Supports the Nurse Manager with 24-hour accountability for operations, including patient care outcomes, staff management, quality, service, and financial performance.
- Provides leadership in delivering compassionate, patient- and family-centered hospice care, including symptom management, end-of-life support, and coordination of interdisciplinary services.
- Serves as a trusted resource for nurses, physicians, caregivers, and loved ones, helping maintain comfort, dignity, and continuity of care.
- Supports goals-of-care discussions, promotes dignity and comfort, and ensures care aligns with hospice philosophy and regulatory standards.
- Fosters a positive, supportive work environment through leadership, coaching, and staff development.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Required)
- 2 - 3 years experience in Clinical Nursing or in a related field (Required)
- 1 - 2 years Progressive Leadership in Nursing (Required)
- Registered Nurse certification within specialty within two years of assuming position (Required)
Qualifications
- Membership in related professional organizations Preferred
- Assists in assuring the delivery of quality patient care to achieve desired outcomes.
- Participates in formulation/revision of unit clinical and administrative practice policies and procedures in accordance with the goals of the organization and nursing.
- Acts as a clinical and administrative resource for unit personnel.
- Plans, organizes, and evaluates the provision of care by collaborating in a collegial manner with physicians and other members of the health team.
- Maintains ongoing professional development.
- Affirms the overall nursing operations, which includes annual planning in support of system-wide initiatives.
- Coordinates and assists as necessary in patient care on designated shifts.
- Determines equipment.
- Affirms the overall responsibility to recruit and retain staff: Interviews, hires, and coordinates orientation of staff; Utilizes counseling and progressive discipline as needed.
- Creates a work environment which is conducive to staff retention.
- Assumes responsibility for the development of employees: Develops staff through identification of educational and organizational opportunities in collaboration with nurse educators.
