Assistant Night Manager Full Time

Job Summary

Working closely with the Assistant Club Manager of Merchandise, the Assistant Night Manager ensures merchandise is properly stocked and available for sale, maintains presentation standards, delivers a positive member experience, and oversees the nightly execution and performance of merchandise department tasks. This role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but directs the work of the overnight team, coaching, teaching, and developing team members to meet Grand Opening Look Daily (GOLD) standards. The Assistant Night Manager also serves as Manager on Duty (MOD) as needed, taking full responsibility for club operations, team leadership, and member engagement during assigned shifts. A yearly forklift certification is required; BJ’s covers any applicable costs and training.

Major Responsibilities

• Lead overnight merchandising execution in partnership with the Assistant Club Manager of Merchandise, providing clear communication, expectations, and hands‑on leadership.
• Support staffing, training, and task execution for forklift operators and merchandising teams.
• Execute overnight tasks such as display setup, pallet movement, and sales‑floor resets to ensure the club is ready for morning operations.
• Maintain merchandise presentation and availability, ensuring correct signage and proper quantities across the sales floor.
• Implement corporate merchandising plans, resets, and sales initiatives accurately and on time.
• Identify opportunities to enhance sales and recommend merchandising improvements based on store conditions, member feedback, and performance trends.
• Oversee maintenance and safe operation of overnight equipment and building systems, including forklifts, refrigeration, and merchandising tools.
• Model and enforce safe equipment usage, perform forklift inspections, and ensure team compliance with safety and sanitation protocols.
• Lead safety and sanitation compliance, conducting steel and pallet safety checks and addressing hazards promptly.
• Execute inventory controls, including daily Hot List completion and accurate pallet tag placement for inventory stored in steel reserves.
• Promote audit readiness by completing required documentation and safety processes during the overnight shift.
• Utilize reporting tools (Hot List, NAFS, price sign reports, productivity dashboards, etc.) to prioritize work and validate execution.
• Collaborate with other Assistant Night Managers, Department Managers, and club leadership to align overnight processes with daytime operations and member expectations.
• Uphold all company policies, operational guidelines, and safety requirements throughout the shift.
• Maintain regular, predictable full attendance on overnight shifts.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support other departments or initiatives.

Qualifications

• Basic computer knowledge (MS Word, MS Excel, Email) required.
• High school diploma, college degree, and/or experience in big‑box wholesale, retail, grocery, or management preferred.
• Forklift operator certification required; prior forklift operating and merchandising experience preferred but not required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Open shift availability required.
• Must maintain all training and required certifications.

Job Conditions

• Frequent movement on hard surfaces; occasional bending, pulling, and reaching.
• Regular lifting of up to 30 pounds; occasional heavier lifting with assistance.
• Use of a pallet jack to pull/push pallets.
• Exposure to temperature extremes and loud noises in perishable areas.
• Potential exposure to cleaning agents.

Compensation

Pay range: $21.00 – $26.25 per hour (estimate based on pay transparency requirements).
