Responsibilities
- Oversees the Night Custodial team to ensure all assigned tasks and projects are completed effectively
- Learns special projects and assigned tasks under the direction of the Night Custodial Supervisor
- Ensures that the Night Custodial team follows all departmental policies and procedures
- Organizes the team's work by establishing priorities, schedules, and deadlines, while supporting Lead Night Custodians in coordinating daily assignments
- Establishes and maintains positive, effective working relationships with Night Custodial team members, students, and colleagues across campus
- Promotes a safe work environment by conducting regular equipment safety inspections and reviewing safety procedures with the Night Custodial Supervisor
- Inspects assigned areas cleaned by team members, identifies work that does not meet established standards, and provides feedback to Lead Night Custodians, Night Custodians, or the Night Custodial Supervisor as appropriate
- Maintains and documents recurring performance concerns and reports them to the Night Custodial Supervisor; assists in addressing these concerns with staff members as directed
- Implements guidance from the Night Custodial Supervisor related to performance improvement plans and training initiatives
- Aids the Night Custodial Supervisor with maintaining custodial equipment and supply inventory
- Aids in arranging and participating in training sessions, seminars, and other professional development opportunities to improve custodial methods, equipment use, and supply management
Requirements
- Knowledge of custodial equipment and supplies, including proper usage
- Experience performing specialized custodial tasks (e.g., floor stripping, carpet shampooing, etc.)
- Ability to make sound decisions related to custodial operations and provide constructive feedback when needed
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to motivate employees and foster a collaborative team environment
- Ability to demonstrate leadership by serving as a role model for team members
- Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the general public
- Ability to handle emergency situations in a calm and professional manner
- Basic computer skills (email, timekeeping system, etc.)
