Position Summary

Assist the head men’s and women’s cross country/track & field coaches in coaching and leadership aspects of a model cross country and track & field program as they relate to academic commitment, supervision of staff and personnel, practice organization and instruction, meet preparation and recruitment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate respect for the Catholic and Franciscan values of the university.
  • Demonstrate the ability to relate effectively to student-athletes, coaches, staff, administration and the University community.
  • Participate in and promote a culture of continuing quality improvement.
  • Assume coaching responsibilities related to the sports of men’s and women’s cross country and track & field.
  • Provide assistance in certain administrative responsibilities related to the sports of men’s and women’s cross country and track & field; monitor the academic progress of student-athletes; enforce team rules; plan, develop and conduct all in-season and off-season practices and conditioning sessions; instruct staff.
  • Ensure that proper safety guidelines and standards are maintained.
  • Certain strategy related to the sports of men’s and women’s cross country and track & field.
  • Represent the athletic department and university in a professional manner at various internal and external functions and in working with internal and external constituencies, including but not limited to the media and general public.
  • Perform other administrative duties within the department as assigned.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three years as a cross country or track & field athlete or coaching experience.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.
  • Ability and willingness to work nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Willingness to support the Catholic and Franciscan values of the University.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years of collegiate cross country or track & field coaching experience.

Hours/Shift/Work Schedule

Hours vary, but do include weekends, nights and holidays.

Physical Requirements of Position

  • Work is performed in both an office setting and at athletic arenas with moderate exposure to varying weather conditions, but minimal health or safety hazards.
  • Moderate exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • Substantial time is spent working on a computer.
  • This is sedentary work, which requires the following physical activities: sitting, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.
  • Travel is required.
  • Hours of work include some nights, weekends and may include working up to 12 hours a day.
